1 DAY WEEKEND WORKSHOPS - Introduction to Pottery Course

£115.00

One Day Pottery Course.

An intensive day course that is both inspiring and very enjoyable. On this course you will be guided through the basics of throwing on the potters wheel, starting with simple tapas dishes, you will progress with support to pieces such as coffee cups, cereal bowls and plant pots. During this one day course you will also explore the hand building process of ceramics to make a range of gorgeous items, such as house signs, tiles and coasters, jewellery, vases and dishes.

I will be demonstrating a range of decorative techniques using coloured liquid clay (slips) you can choose to colour and decorate your pieces using the coloured ceramic slips which come in a range of colours from vibrant reds, oranges and yellows to muted greys and whites, and also rich blues, greens and turquoise.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners (even if you don’t see yourself as creative!) You will be surprised at how quickly you learn with clay and the quality and quantity of what you produce in the day. It’s a technically informative course, with everything explained clearly and great introduction to the world of ceramics and working with clay.

TUTOR : Kim Birchall

£115 - Including all materials, firings and refreshments.

*You get to keep all your beautiful creations, please allow 2 - 3 weeks after the course for your work to be fired, everything you make will need to dry out throughly then fired twice in the kiln, once to 1000 degrees, then the pieces are carefully glazed and refired to stoneware 1240-1260 degrees for maximum durability and aesthetics.

Info for course attendees:

Times are 10am till 4pm. Refreshments, tea & coffee, snacks are provided throughout the day. We take a break for lunch and you can either bring a packed lunch or go into Frome/Mells/Nunney or one of the many lovely cafes or pubs. Please wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and you won't mind getting a bit of clay on…it does all wash off however :) There is plenty of parking round the back the pottery studio please follow the parking signs. Do bring an apron if you have one, although there are spares at the pottery, a phone for photos and/or notebook is useful too.
