










































































Summer Pottery Intensive Weekend - 30th & 31st August
A deep dive in the world of pottery over 2 days in beautiful and natural location in Somerset.
This weekend course will give you a thorough understanding of the basics of ceramics practice.
This is an intensive course that will cover:
Throwing on the potters wheel -
Create simple forms with close support, such as bowls and cups. Learn the basic principles of 'centering' clay. Build on your skills if you have throwing experience. Options on day 2, to ‘turn’ the pieces to finish
Hand building ceramics
Learn the fundamentals of slab building and press moulding to form a diverse range of functional and decorative objects, this versatile process enables you to make a diverse range of forms with many possibilities for function
Raku firing
Discover this exciting and beautiful process. On day one we will make a selection of ceramic pieces that we will then bisque fire and then Raku fire on the second day. This is a very immediate process, much quicker than other ceramics and is as dramatic as it is stunning in results.
Glazing and firing
On this course you will learn the fundamentals of making your own glazes. We will explore how to make simple coloured glaze using stains, metal oxides and carbonates for a range of different processes, including stoneware and raku. You will also make your own coloured decorating slips and we will look at how to use this slips and glazes in various ways.
Also we will discuss how to load and unload kilns correctly and most importantly understand firing programs and schedules.
Lunch is provided each day - prepared using produce straight from the farm. As well as other locally sourced produce. Vegan and vegetarian can be catered for.
All materials; clays, glazes and firings are provided, you keep everything you make.
The course set on a peaceful farm just outside Frome, there are options to bnb, camp or stay in a shepherds hut. Frome has lots of accommodation options and is a buzzing and thriving town with a great arts seane, funky restaurants and cafes as well as the most number of listed buildings in England.
